On Monday, September 2nd at 9:55pm, the moon will be at exact degree with the Sun in Leo’s Purva Phalguni, the star of fortune, fulfillment and relaxation. It is a stellar placement that speaks of merit earned from a favorable past life (remember, our past life is also the days accumulated before today). Merit comes from sharing abundance with others and not being stingy or demanding others pull their own weight. In being able to see the bigger picture than your own needs and helping out a fellow brother or sister, merit is earned. The merit is of luck and good fortune.
I call this the “Life is Good” star. Because when you see life from that lens, you know abundance is all around and you don’t have to be stingy with your words of affirmation, your actions and gifts and other ways you express in the world. You can give with abandon and know your giving actually creates more good fortune for you (actually you may not intellectually know this but instinctively you suspect).
An image I love for this nakshatra/star is a cat napping in a hammock. It is in that liminal space without opinion, feels amazing, and just wants others to join in on the good feels so they aren’t by themselves! (note: here is something I wrote about P. Phalguni last year)
As Purva Phalguni is a star representing procreation and replication (and love), it might be considered and even extra special time for planting seeds of intention, especially as we are one month away from the annular eclipse in Hasta Virgo on October 2nd.
Has this been an extra challenging, transformation or interesting year for you? If so, I’m talking to you specifically. This is time to home in your practice with intention and care.
What is it that you desire?
What is it that you need to feel cared for and nourished and able to do the hard work of transformation?
We are in the heart of the cosmic body and it is urging us deeper inward and to trust our wholeness and our power. Leo, where this new moon is happen (sidereal zodiac) is our power.
If you study your personal astrology with me, additionally note:
What house is this for you?
Are there any planets in this house?
Are there any planets with this nakshatra?
If there are planets here, what signs/houses do they rule in your chart?
Is the planet your planetary ruler, Atma Karaka, or another elevated position?
These are not necessary to create an intention for the new moon, it just adds nuance and precision.
I ran into a water ritual for the waning lunar cycle that I’m adding in as a practice this month and I thought you would as well.
As the moon begins to empty, the 8th day or later (so you can do this today as we are at the 11th day as I write), fill a bowl with water and add in a little sea salt. This is a representation of your inner waters, your tears and emotions, your unexpressed grief. Keep this water in a special place or on your spiritual altar and as the Moon gets darker, these next days until the New Moon on Monday evening, speak, whisper, cry, plea and chant your desires, hopes, dreams and your grief into the water. Let this water hold your emotions and feelings.
On the new moon, either late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning, go outside and ask a tree if it will receive your water. Pour the water on a tree as you speak your intentions a feelings. This will support the release of your emotional body and inner waters. Now notice, how it feels in your body to release your feelings and have the Earth and the trees receive you in this way.
I received this practice from Saraswati Miller. I hope you join me in the ritual practice.
You can also join me in my monthly online New Moon Seeding breathwork class focused on this same ritual of release (what no longer serves) and also seeding in our desires. It is online via Zoom on Monday, 7:30-9pm ET, September 2nd (yes I know it is Labor Day, but this is also an important cycle and practice). I would love for you to join us. Sign up here: https://thewisdomsanctuary.as.me/newmoonbreathwork.
In the breathwork class, I will weave in your intentions of release and empowerment.
