Happy Full Moon, my friends. Tonight is the lunar eclipse prelude to the solar eclipse happening in two weeks. While solar eclipses are the more prominent eclipses with the generative and initiative quality of starting something, lunar eclipses are the receptive pole in the eclipse season, and in this instance ushering in the masculine solar eclipse (in 2023, the solar eclipses preceded the lunar eclipses).
We have at least four eclipses every year, sometimes up to six eclipses as in 2020, but generally four and they happen about six months apart. Eclipses are not rare. Often they come and go without much ado for many. But when they are strong, either collectively or personally, it is a transformative time.
The eclipses of 2024 seem to me to be a collectively strong (and personally strong) cycle of transformation and the season started calling to me in early 2023. I’ve tried to write and share but more often than not, I’ve felt eclipsed in my ability to share through blogging. Today, I’m going to start a series of posts that will continue up until the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, and then I will pick up throughout the year with some addendums and then again follow through the second round of eclipses in September.
In crafting these posts, I hope to help you gain some clarity in how the eclipses might be affecting you and your purpose in life, how it is affecting others, and how you might be utilize these opportunities for alignment.
At the basis of an eclipse, it is about alignment.
The Sun, Moon and Earth are all coming into alignment with the karmic axis, known as the north and south lunar nodes.
The lunar nodes are points in space where the orbit of the Moon (orbiting Earth) crosses with the orbit of the Earth (orbiting the Sun). There is a “north” node and a “south” node that are connected with karma.
The north node, called Rahu in the Vedic tradition, is the soul’s yearning to evolve and grow through actions (and actions create ripples which create new actions, which we call karma).
The south node, called Ketu in the Vedic tradition, is detached from this karma. The south node shows what the soul perfected in the past and thus feels no desire to achieve in that area of life and thus rejects this area of the current life. It is a subconscious imprint.
During an eclipse, you are coming into direct alignment with these two poles. And something is getting eclipsed. This will be our inquiry we hold over the next two weeks in the writings here.
The Earth is where you are in all this, it represents the physical body (the 30ish trillion cells being held together magically to form a vessel for your consciousness to explore life). In the natal chart, we call this the Ascendant or your Rising Star.
The Sun, however, is who you really are. It represents the Consciousness that expresses through the 30 trillion cells that you call “I or me” having this unique life. It is who you truly are and the part of you that never dies. It is our causal body, the body which we know “causes” things to happen, desires, purpose, evolution. It is the part of us that knows and knows that it knows.
And, finally, the Moon is the mind, our massive subconscious that holds all of the impressions, lessons, memories, etc., that have happened over every second of every minute of all time to this Soul that you are. The Moon is our subtle, or astral body.
In a few days, in part 2, I’m going to dive into the astronomy a little more.
The lunar eclipse for tonight is happening in the sign of Virgo. Yes, Virgo. This is sidereal zodiac which uses an astronomically correct map of the constellations that are behind the Moon. The zodiac is really just points in space, markers if you will, to be able to create meaning and understanding. What is important is what is behind the Moon and Ketu, the south node. This is what is being channeled to us through the activation of the Moon and also Ketu.
Virgo in general is about purification, serving, protecting and improving. Virgo has very high standards and is trying to get us to rise up to those standards through skill and methodologies and also is disappointed because the set expectations are often too high or too focused.
In the Vedic tradition, we narrow this down even further to one of three sets of constellations that comprise Virgo. Both the Moon and Ketu are with Hasta. Hasta is represented by the symbol of a hand and is considered the star of manifestation. This can show where we might be grasping for power, either through money or knowledge. We can see this playing out in many ways through the collective.
If you know your Vedic natal chart, you will note what house this is for you, for me it is my 7th house of partnerships and I sense that this is more related to how I am choosing to do business as I move into this new phase. It seems with this eclipse, the old ways are being renegotiated and I’m being called to step up my A-game instead of the easy way or how I have been conditioned through life. With Ketu, it could also indicate that prominent relationships from past lives are being re-energized so that the lessons perfected in the past can be brought forward.
Another thing to hang on to for the big picture of 2024, is that the Solar Eclipse on October 2nd will be here. At that time, Ketu, Moon, Sun and Mercury will all be with Hasta nakshatra in that masculine Solar Eclipse New Moon.
Right now, what we might consider is that the feminine Lunar Eclipse Full Moon is setting the stage for something. The power (shakti) is being laid out for a new seed to be planted with these Hasta Virgo ideals.
So…if you picked up what I’m laying down, there are fractals within fractals that I’m investigating (with more to come).
We have the current two eclipses: Mar 25 the feminine Lunar Eclipse in Hasta Virgo and then the April 8 masculine Solar Eclipse in Pisces (more later on this).
We have the Mar 25 feminine Lunar Eclipse in Hasta Virgo and then on October 2, we have the masculine Solar Eclipse in Hasta Virgo.
Fractals within fractals.
That’s why I’m laying out breadcrumbs one post at a time.
I really hope you engage with me and this journey through comments, questions and shares. That inspires me to geek out and share more.
My friend Lindy Hoeft and I are co-facilitating a Solar Eclipse Support Workshop on April 6th. These blogs are a companion resource to that workshop. If you want to join us for a Mantra Purusha+Yoga Nidra practice and more at The Yoga Sanctuary, sign up here.

PS: As a side note, I refuse to use fake intelligence (AI) for my writings and musings. Please ignore the typos, grammar and other mistakes, including barking dogs in the audio. It is what it is. I’m not reaching for perfection here, just trying to share something of use.
Thank you, Jenn. Super informative and helpful.
Thanks Jenn, I enjoyed your insight about the lunar eclipse in Hasta. Its my 5th house and I just recently experienced a painful and unexpected rift with my son which I think could be related to Ketu in Hasta and also the moon as me/mother. OMMMM, neva
