On Sunday, 7:13am Eastern Time, the Moon will be new at exact degree starting the new lunar cycle. This happens in the sign of Cancer with the Nakshatras (stars, lunar house) of Ashlesha.
Ashlesha Nakshatra is a placement of deep transformation and alchemy which can lead to profound insights and healing of outdated patterns… for some people it is like how a snake sheds skin - we outgrow ourselves in some way and the slough off the old. Sloughing off can be a metaphor for emotional release after holding on to something for so long, eons even.
With Ashlesha, we learn that we do have the capacity to be vulnerable and stay with uncomfortable feelings and emotions; in other words, to embrace the poison. Only through being in relationship with ourselves fully, can true healing happen. That means, to be with the parts we reject and project.
This New Moon will be quite powerful for personal healing and deeper transformation as it is with Ashlesha/Cancer.
As we shed and slough off the old, a different version emerges, a cleaner and clearer version of ourselves. Consider what skin is being shed on our political landscape. What skin are you shedding? What layers are dropping off in your own personal transformation?
Allow yourself time to withdraw into your cave of transformation.
Shadow side is tendency to over think and overcomplicate things. And on new moon, there is a higher tendency for the shadows. Use this as a time to understand yourself, your tendencies and beliefs better.
Ashlesha calls for us to regulate our nervous systems. There are all kinds of ways to work with your nervous system but for today, here are a few little things anyone can try:
Soften your eyes and upturn the corners of your mouth (like the Mona Lisa).
Take a walk and really enjoy the sights and feels of being in nature.
Massage your face, around the eyes, ears, cheeks, necks and let your hands really land on your heart, feel your heart under your hands.
Take a few conscious breaths or audible sighs.
Try box breathing for about 3-4 rounds:
Inhale - 2 - 3 - 4
Hold - 2 - 3 - 4
Exhale - 2 - 3 - 4
Retain Empty - 2 - 3 - 4
How can you learn to handle triggers and emotional responses in a better way? Be your own medicine. Be your own transformation. Take responsibility for your own nervous system regulation whenever you can!
8am Sunday morning (8/4/2024) we will have a New Moon Seeding Breathwork practice focused on this emotional sloughing off. It is online…and I’d love you to join us. Sign up here.
